In 2020, the EPA under the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) issued “Risk Evaluation Reports” for several traditional degreasing solvents including Trichloroethylene (TCE), N-Propyl bromide (nPB) or 1-bromopropane, perchloroethylene, and abbreviations such as "perc" (or "PERC") and Methylene Chloride (MC). During this evaluation, they found a number of these solvents to be hazardous to workers’ health. As of 2022, the regulatory action is underway and expected to culminate as the year progresses creating important changes for solvents used in the production world. There are many choices when it comes to selecting cleaning processes and chemistries in order to provide the performance level required.
